Character Studies (January)— New Years Resolutions/Goals

Character Studies (#WritingCharacterStudies) January 2019 New Years Resolutions & Goals Featured Image

Character studies is a monthly interview.  For more info, see here.

Interested in participating?  Copy/paste the following questions, pick a character to answer them, and then share the link back here so we can go check it out!

There are fewer questions this month, so characters can focus on really answering them. (Hinthint characters, do cooperate.) It also comes with a challenge! Feel free to answer questinos like normal, but if you wanna go a little deeper, try this!

Instead of answering questions like this:

Author: What’s your favorite color?
Cimizelle: Pink! Always pink!

Instead, try writing it in prose! Like:

Ereinne crossed her arms in the closest to a serious expression that she could get with her round face and neon-orange dress. “So tell me,” she said in an equally mock-serious voice, “your favorite color.”

Cimizelle giggled. “You ask that like it has the same weight as my opinion of politics.”

“Oh, it absolutely does,” Ereinne said in the same voice. “So what is it?”

“Ereinne, you already know what my favorite color is.”

“Yes, but the people reading this blog might not!”

“I just said it like two seconds ago in this post!”

“What if nobody saw it?”

“Ugh, fine, it’s pink!

…I apologize if your Character Studies gets as out of hand as this attempted to get.

So in honor of the new year, when all the bloggers are blogging about their New Years Resolutions and stuff, it seems appropriate to ask characters about their resolutions, right?

**This is why this blog is kind of an unruly thing to manage. Why oh why did I let characters assist me in writing posts?
Oh yeah. For character development.
And they didn’t give me much choice.

  • Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
  • What is the difference between what you feel you need and what you want? Why is/isn’t there a discrepancy? (Authors, feel free to add commentary to this answer.
  • What’s something you’ve always wanted to do and never actually got around to doing?
  • Is there anything you’ve been trying to change, but you really don’t have control over? (Hint: the answer is probably “yes”.) Why are you trying to change it?
  • What’s something you really wanted to have/be/do as a child? Did you achieve it? Why or why not?
  • Bonus: Do you know how to dance?
